Why Pilgrimage?

“It is the pleasure of searching and the pleasure of the adventure.  You are nourishing something that’s very important-your dreams.  We must never stop dreaming.  Dreams provide nourishment for the soul, just as a meal does for the body.  Many times in our lives we see our dreams shattered and our desires frustrated, but we have to continue dreaming.  If we don’t, our soul dies…”

Paulo Coelho, The Pilgrimage

According to the dictionary, a pilgrimage is a “journey, especially a long one, made to some sacred place as an act of religious devotion.” The act of pilgriming is seen in cultures and religions around the world, and my journey to healthful abundance is as spiritual as it is physical.

My journey thus far has been varied. Scary. Unknown. Wonderful. Destructive. Life-giving. But always, always winding, and always a source of growth.

I’ve been seduced by sirens of false success, tripped and tempted along the route. My own feet have brought me to dark groves of destruction along the way, but they now trek forcefully towards the future, towards a life of abundant living.

  1. I absolutely adore Paulo Coelho’s writings. I love how he writes with such mysticism.

“There are moments when troubles enter our lives and we can do nothing to avoid them. But they are there for a reason. Only when we have overcome them will we understand why they were there.”
~ Paulo Coelho, The Fifth Mountain

Blessings to you and your ongoing journey to abundant living!
